Monday, 5 December 2011: Altius Mining Limited (ASX:AYM) is pleased to announce the commencement of three new airborne geophysical surveys, as part of its comprehensive strategy for the exploration of its tenements in New South Wales and Queensland. This strategy involves the systematic application to each of the Company’s 13 licences and permit of:
- A thorough review of all past mining and exploration
- A new airborne high-resolution magnetic and radiometric survey
- The interpretation and modelling of anomalies of the newly acquired geophysical data
- The ground investigation of all prospects and areas identified by the review and the geophysical interpretation
- The drill testing of targets identified as potentially economic mineral deposits
On 6 December, geophysical contractor Thomson Aviation Pty. Ltd. will commence the survey of Altius Mining’s EL 7051, Honeybugle, which has the potential for the discovery of platinum, nickel and cobalt deposits associated with ultramafic intrusions and in laterite. This will be followed by the survey of the Company’s EL, Yarran, which has potential for platinum, nickel and cobalt deposits associated with ultramafic intrusions. The third survey will be of the Company’s EL 7036, Gowulma, which has the potential for porphyry-style copper and gold deposits.
After the completion of the three new surveys, the Company’s consultant geophysicists will interpret the data.
Previous to these new surveys, Altius Mining has made airborne high-resolution surveys of its ELs 7045, 7046, 7155, 7159, 7173, 7195, 7332 and 7423 in New South Wales and EPM 14498 in Queensland. Geophysical interpretation is complete or commenced on ELs 7045, 7046, 7159, 7332 and 7423 and EPM 14498. Ground investigation has commenced on EL 7046 and EPM 14998. The Company proposes to announce drilling targets when drill testing is about to commence.
